[Frowns off into the distance like it'll make the girl's parents reappear.]

I don't know. Blue, I guess.

[She seems dissatisfied by this answer, but she holds a blue crayon out anyway.]

Wanna color with me?

[Hesitates a beat, then takes it.]

Sure. Why not?

[And she's cheerfully returning to her coloring! She's in the middle of drawing a garden along the bottom of the wall with stripes of green grass and flowers in all different colors. Nearby she's drawn lots of smiling stick figures and suns and what may or may not be a car. They're about as quality as you'd expect of a nine year old, but she's certainly having fun with it.]

[I guess let's go with the theme? Might as well add a couple of more people. They may or may not be us, sitting on the floor and drawing with crayons.]

[Once she's finished scribbling color into the petals of the latest indeterminate flower she's drawn, she looks over and points excitedly at his drawing.]

That one looks like me!

That's the idea.

[Takes the yellow, for your hair.]

[She's thrilled, which is not really a thing you want this girl to be with anything you ever do but it's too late. After a few seconds of delightedly watching her hair being colored, she's shifting to a blank space on the wall so she can try imitating his drawing. It's, y'know, that same nine-year-old scribble quality, but she's very determined.]

[His isn't all the great, to be honest. It looks a lot like someone who's got a pretty good grasp on anatomy and never drew a picture in his life is trying it out for the first time.]

[Offers her the yellow when he's done with it, then pokes around for some other colors so he can add the full set of crayons into the picture.]
