[Whoever he is, he's dreaming of flying. Flying over what, that's difficult to say. A city, maybe, some clump of indistinguishable buildings and streets. Little ant-sized people are dashing around amidst brightly colored lights. Maybe they're throwing a party. Maybe they're on fire. He sorta hopes it's both.]

[Where did this guy come from? Hard to say. Dreams are funny like that. But he's up there in the air with you now, keeping pace and looking down on it.]

Do you think that's going to be trouble?

[court_chesster]

[Jumps a bit, clearly surprised that somebody would be up there with him. He considers the question, but after a moment he shrugs it off.]

I doubt it. They've got bigger things to worry about than what's going on up here.

Not trouble for us, I mean. Trouble for them.

[He's frowning down at the running crowd.]

[are you in a giant robot? are you sure? all the pew pew lasers make it an awful lot easier to set parties on fire, you know]

There are still a lot of people down there... They're not going to get in the way, are they, Commander?

[Commander of a giant robot, will you look at that. Who did I kill to get this position?]

They were supposed to evacuate.

Doesn't look like they did a very good job. As if these peacekeeping missions weren't hassle enough without civilians milling about and getting in the way! --Er, sir.

[Whoever's dreaming this must not have much in the way of an imagination, because all there is here is a long, empty hallway; white walls, white floors, white ceiling too high up. It doesn't look like it comes from or goes to anywhere—

Oh, actually, maybe not. There's a little girl crouched on the ground a ways down, her happy humming echoing as she draws colorful flowers and suns and stick figures in crayon on the walls and floor.]

[Might have been wandering, lost, for long enough that he gave up expecting to see anyone. He draws up short at the sight of the girl.]

Hello?

[scribbly]

[She looks up and over her shoulder to him, pausing what she's doing, and then she beams really wide and waves her hand over her head.]

Hiiiii!

[Peers this way and that to make sure he didn't miss anyone.]

Where are you parents?

[unholydiver]

[All of a sudden, there shined a shiny demon in the middle of the hall.]

[He is now humming along to this child's song.]

[scribbly]

[pppausing. She is, at the absolute worst, mildly unsettled.

And now she's resuming her humming and waving him over.]

[unholydiver]

[Well, why not? He comes over, his big, clawed feet leaving burn marks on the floor.]

Hello, child.

[wandering up and staring, unimpressed]

What's with the mess?

[So welcome to the passenger side seat of this dream about an ACTION MOVIE CAR CHASE; we're in a cop car and the sirens are blaring and the redhead with the weirdass rooster ponytail beside whoever you are is driving in the action movie-est way possible, that is, recklessly and with a lot of swerving around other things and grinning really wide, determination blazing in her eyes, so hold onto your ass.]

Storms - would you -

You're going to hit that building!

[rentedthefarm]

Hold on!

[And she turns the wheel so hard away from said building that the car starts spinning. Miraculously, it isn't hitting anything as she swerves around trying to right it instead of using the brake pedal for its intended purpose.]

Can't you stop this thing?

[court_chesster]

[While you and your partner are hot on the trail, chopper support radios in from above.]

Suspect is headed toward the bridge. He's trying to cross state lines!

[outofhand]

Can't you make this thing go any faster? He's getting away with the loot!

[The ground here is stone; no grass, no soil, just pock-marked grey rock, with water in the little crevasses. It's dark all around, but that's okay. At the center of it, pushing back the shadows, is a fairly cozy cook fire. On top, there's a bubbling pot of something that smells good.]

[There's also this guy, perched on an outcropping of rock. He keeps looking away from the fire, out toward the area beyond the fire's light.]

[some rustling in the darkness, and then a kid appears, wearing too many vests and a rather confused look on his face. he perks up at the aroma of whatever's in that bubbling pot, though]

...What's cooking?

[Shrugs.]

It was here when I got here.
